Primary School Readiness programme
Our Primary School Readiness programme is set up for our older children in a quiet space where they can spend time in smaller groups with a teacher. We have carefully selected our resources for this space, keeping in mind our passion for play/enquiry-based learning.
This is a special time for us in a group to share news and for our children to learn to listen and wait for a turn respectfully. There will be opportunities for investigation/inquiry into interests and working theories where our tamariki can ask relevant questions and work together.
Literacy abilities grow when there are opportunities for storytelling, poems and rhymes where our children can see, act, sing, classify, observe, make decisions, develop sequencing skills, recognise and understand relationships, read and tell stories, talk, listen and play.
“Learning is a journey that begins before birth and continues throughout life. Each part of the education system has a responsibility for supporting children (and the adults they become) on this lifelong journey of exploration. Kaiako and new entrants’ teachers support children by affirming their identity and culture, connecting with and building on their funds of knowledge and having positive expectations for their learning.” (Te Whariki, 2017).
