ACG Schools have received 22 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards following last year’s examinations, including awards for two of the top three students in the country overall.
The awards recognise the best-performing learners in New Zealand and around the world.
Our four New Zealand schools received:
- 5 Top in the World
- 10 Top in New Zealand
- 5 High Achievement (Top in New Zealand for a smaller subject)
- Best Across Three (Top A Level student in New Zealand – Caleb Probine, ACG Parnell College)
- Best Across Five (Top IGCSE student in New Zealand – David Li, ACG Sunderland)
This is the first time ACG Schools have had both the top IGCSE student and top A Level student in the same year.
The Top in the World awards covered a wide range of subjects – Literature in English, Combined Science, History, Mathematics and Design & Technology – as did the Top in New Zealand and High Achievement awards.
Clarence can der Wel, CEO of Schools and Early Learning, said this demonstrates both the breadth of subjects available in ACG Schools and the strength of teaching across the board.
He said he was proud of all ACG students who had worked hard and achieved at such a high level.
“The number of awards reflects their work, the support of ACG families, and outstanding teaching. Above all, a commitment to excellence and a passion for learning from both students and teachers are the key drivers to these outstanding results,” he said.

Around 10,000 students in New Zealand sit Cambridge exams every year. Around the world, that number grows to more than a million students in approximately 10,000 schools. Entries for Cambridge exams in June 2018 grew by eight per cent internationally on June 2017.
