The stage was alive with energy, creativity, and passion as ACG Tauranga students took part in the Dance NZmade Interschool Competition, held at the Tauranga Regionals on 12 September. Competing across multiple categories, both teams and soloists represented the school with pride, dedication, and outstanding talent.

Primary Champions

Our youngest dancers proved that age is no barrier to excellence. Performing Good Times Flow, the Primary Team impressed with their polished routine and vibrant energy under the guidance of choreographer Amy Yorke. Their hard work and enthusiasm were rewarded with the title of Year 3 - 6 Champions, a testament to their commitment and teamwork.

Student-Led Creativity

The Year 7–8 Team captivated the audience with Wildflower, a contemporary piece choreographed by students Eva Goldsworthy, Lily Evans-Lao, and Mila Hayward. Their ability to design and direct their peers highlighted remarkable initiative and artistry, producing a moving and memorable performance.

Hip Hop Brilliance

Bringing a different vibe to the competition, the Funkadelic’s Hip Hop Team, choreographed by student Ramari York, delivered a routine bursting with rhythm and fun. Their sharp moves and synchronisation had the crowd cheering, showing ACG Tauranga’s strength across multiple dance styles.

Spotlight on Soloists

Several students also shone in solo categories:

  • Jada Watson (Year 3) impressed with a classical Demi character piece full of poise.
  • Bella Flavell (Year 7) delivered a confident, polished routine.
  • Emily Pengelly (Year 11) earned second place in her age group, a fantastic achievement reflecting her talent and perseverance.

Dedication and Spirit

What united every performance was the sheer dedication of our students. Many sacrificed lunchtimes and weekends to rehearse, and their effort showed in routines filled with energy, joy, and a love for dance.

“We are incredibly proud of every single dancer who took part,” says Cayley Rautenbach, Head of Primary at ACG Tauranga. “Their achievements reflect their creativity, perseverance, and the strong spirit of our ACG Tauranga community. Whether competing as part of a team or as soloists, they showcased the very best of what it means to perform with heart.”

The success at Dance NZmade was about more than trophies – it was about collaboration, encouragement, and celebrating the joy of performing together. With such talent and passion on display, the future of dance at ACG Tauranga is undoubtedly bright.
