"It is important to be able to communicate with others and take their ideas and opinions into account, even if they conflict with your own."

- Laoise McCarthy, Head Prefect 2019

For me, being part of ACG Tauranga’s inaugural leadership team is a great privilege as it allows me to become involved, to help develop the culture of the school and to inspire younger students to do the same.

I am excited to be working as a member of the student leadership team as we will work together on behalf of all the students to influence decisions made throughout the school year.

Being a student leader will allow me to work with other students and as a team, to help build on the vision of the school. It is also important to me that I get to work with other students and teachers across all year levels.

Last year I enjoyed being involved in the various house activities and helping all students to participate and get involved. I am looking forward to becoming more involved this school year.

I believe that a good leader needs to be confident in order to convey ideas that they believe in and to put their point across effectively. I also feel that it is very important to be able to communicate with others and take their ideas and opinions into account, even if they conflict with your own.

Working in a team, especially from a student leadership perspective, is a vital part of being an effective leader as decisions can be made more efficiently when everyone involved is open to accepting new ideas.

A good leader, through their actions and decisions, should motivate and inspire others to do their best in whatever context they are working in.
