ACG Tauranga students recently took part in the Tall Poppies Problem Solving Competition where student teams were required to work through 20 maths questions in only 45 minutes.

Represented by both a Year 7 and a Year 8 team, ACG Tauranga went head-to-head with eight other schools in their cluster.

Our Year 7 students were delighted with a first-place finish in their group, while our Year 8 team also achieved outstanding results, coming second in their division in a strongly contested finish.

“Both teams showed excellent problem-solving skills, working collaboratively and creatively for the entire 45 minutes” explained ACG Tauranga Maths Teacher, Jo Landeg.

In keeping with past ACG victories, our Year 7 Problem Solving team also took top honours, winning the overall competition title by completing more questions than any of the other Year 7 or Year 8 teams.

“It was a fun night” said Year 7 ACG Tauranga student, Sean Lester. “Some of the questions were hard, but we kept trying different ways to solve them.”

In addition, congratulations to Harrison Young (Year 7) and Sam Stokes (Year 8) who participated in the Speech Competition section. Both students spoke extremely well with Harrison placing third in the Year 7 division.
